Kris Cutlery KATANA 25

255.00

This is the 4th generation of Kambun style blade katana from Kris Cutlery. The fittings and overall appearance is simple with a high quality handforged 1060 steel blade and reasonably priced. The Kambun style blade became popular during the Edo period (1603-1868). It has a slight curve on the blade that was possibly influenced by the fencing schools of the era.

The 1060 high carbon steel blade is 25" long showing a straight line hamon / temperline. A ¼” wide bohi / groove runs along the top of the blade on both sides. Blade thickness is 5/16” at the habaki and tapers towards the point. This gives an excellent *balance point of 4-3/4” to 5”. At the base of the blade is a brass habaki / sleeve.

Black round tsuba / guard is 2.9” in diameter with two small openings.  The handle measures 10-1/2” long with black same/ray skin panels then wrapped with dark brown poly blend ito / braided ribbon. Gold colored dragon brass menuki / ornament is found under the warp. Two bamboo mukugi / pegs are used on the handle. Black fuchi / ferrule and kashira / pommel are used on the handle.

Wood scabbard has a glossy black lacquer with the kurikata / knob with gold colored shitodome / metal inserts. Swords comes with black bag.

BLADE: 25" long, 5/16" thick, sori / curvature 5/8”
HAMON: straight with hardened edge to 60+ HRC (hardness)
HANDLE: 10-1/ 2 ", two bamboo pegs
TSUBA: 2.9” diameter
BALANCE POINT: 4-3/4” to 5”
WEIGHT: 2.2 lbs. without the scabbard

*Balance point is distance from guard to the blade where it is balance. Smaller number feels “lighter” and higher number feels “heavier”. Some weight on the blade forward section is good and assists in the cutting capability but too much can make it top heavy. Ideal number is 4”-8”.
