SEAX II - folded steel, blemished

19.00

This piece has a hairline vertical crack on the blade. Check the photos for illustration.  It is sold “as is” and as decorative piece. We advise not using it as a functional blade.

Also known as Scramasax. The single edge blade is 11-1/2” long with a 7” groove on one side.  Near the handle the thick blade is slightly over ¼” and tapers to 1/8” an inch from the tip. This gives the dagger a nice balance. Two types of steel were used to make the blade: 1050 & 9260. Fusing them together at a very high temperature results in a folded steel or pattern welded steel. The pattern is random and is visible. The edge is differentially hardened. Dark acid etched blade shows laminations. Can be removed by aggressively using a polishing compound.

Simple utilitarian wood handle is 5” long with an octagonal cross section. It has a brown stain. The same type of wood similar to oak is used as a scabbard. Reg. $95
