One of the the ancient swords of China is the Jian. The blade is straight with a double edge. Measuring 26" - 26.5" long, the blade is made from folded carbon steel that is visible and with a beautiful pattern. The blade is 1-⅜ " wide near the handle and tapers to ⅞" wide near the point. Blade thickness is slightly over ¼"/ 7mm near the guard and 5/32"/4mm an inch from the point.
Nice dark wood handle is 5½ " long with brass fittings on both ends. Both cross guard and pommel are brass with floral engraving. The blade tang is attached to a nut at the end of the pommel and also serves as area to attach a tassel. This sword has a removable red tassel with a jade like disc near the top. Dark brown wood scabbard has three brass bands with floral engravings.
Balance point of the sword is 4½" from the guard. The sword weighs (w/o scabbard) 1.6 lbs. This is a high quality sword with excellent blade - finish and beautiful lamination pattern. $250
