SHIRASAYA KATANA
The Katana blade is 26" long made from 1060 carbon steel with a straight hamon/tempered edge. A brass habaki is at the base of the blade. Light colored hardwood handle is 11 3/8" long with a bamboo peg and a black synthetic band around the opening. The matching scabbard also has a black band at the opening. Wt. 1.8 lbs. (w/o scabbard). After Katana blade is made and polished it is sometimes stored in a plain wood handle & scabbard with out fittings called shira-saya. It is possible to convert the shira-saya into a fully mounted type at a later date. This is best for some who plans to customize the sword in the near future.
