TANTO IV
The Hira-zukuri style blade is 10 ¼ inches
with a slight upward curve. A visible Hamon/temper
line is straight and measures ¼ inch or wider.
High carbon steel 5160 is used . At the blade’s base is
an polished iron Habaki/sleeve. Polished iron
fittings are used on the handle. The handle is 4-¾
inches long made of a brown hardwood. There is a bamboo
peg that secures the handle to the blade tang and is
removable. Black lacquered wood scabbard has a polished
iron Koiguchi/metal band at the opening and a
black horn Kurikata/knob.
This is a fourth generation Tanto style design from Kris
Cutlery and is in limited production. $125
Blade: 10-¼ inches 5160 carbon steel, 6 mm
(slightly less than ¼ inch thick at the base
Hamon: Straight; some with very slight wave, hardened to 60 RC
Handle: 4-¼ inch hardwood
