Kris Cutlery WAKIZASHI 12

First time Kris Cutlery produced a very short blade Wakizashi measuring 12”. A very short bladed Wakizashi is called Ko-Wakizashi.  Made from 1060 steel the blade is hardened with a straight hamon that is visible. On top of the blade is a 10” groove on both sides. The blade is 1-1/4” wide in front of the habaki and is ¼” thick tapering to 3/8” thick an inch from the blade tip. A brass habaki /sleeve is attached to the base of the blade.

Wood handle is 4-3/4” long with a bamboo peg securing it to the blade’s tang. Similar wood is used in the scabbard. Both handle and scabbard have a clear lacquer glossy finish. This plain wood handle-scabbard is called shirasaya.  A black bag is supplied.
