SOLO KERIS #6661

185.00

It has 5 wave blade, 14-3/4” long and a pamor or lamination pattern called Kulit Semangka or watermelon skin. Blade is ½” thick at the base and tapers towards the point to about 1/8”. The black blade with silver bright lines is a result of etching it with mineral arsenic and lime. Iron/steel part turns black while the nickel part becomes bright.

The removable wood handle has 7 sides and is never glued to the tang. The ferrule is typical of the Surakarta style and has silver finish. The flamboyant upper part of the scabbard is made of light color hardwood and is called Ladrang. The lower section of the scabbard where the blade goes is wood and is covered with a brass sleeve with repousee geometric patterns. It is removable. A small shallow dent can be seen on one of the photos.

Surakarta is in East Java and commonly called Solo by the local people. The large blade, handle and scabbard are typical compared to keris from Yogyakarta
