Shin Gunto 2599

1,450.00

SHIN-GUNTO #2599
This is another typical Army Officer’s sword made prior to the so called late 1944 pattern which has black iron fittings.

The blade is highly polished with a straight hamon (etched?) with no nicks or notable scratches. The handle has a battle style wrap and lacquered black for protection. Underneath the wrap is ray skin. The fuchi/ferrule, menuki/ornament and kashira/pommel are blackened copper or brass with the typical sakura/cherry blossom design. Brass or copper tsuba/guard has black patina flanked by two large seppa/spacers. There are two bamboo pegs on the handle and was never removed to check for signature or arsenal marking(s).

The steel covered wood scabbard is painted olive brown with iron fittings. All are in good shape. The locking mechanism on the handle that hooks to the scabbard is working perfectly. $1450
