KUDYAPI Philippine Lute

Two stringed boat shape lute found in Mindanao commonly called Kudyapi.  Used by the Maguindanao, Maranao, Manobo and other groups. Smaller styles are found in the Visayan region. Traditional names for the Kudyapi vary depending on the region due to different dialects and languages. 

The carving style and motif on this Kudyapi is Moro, Maguindanao or Maranao.  The quality of carvings shows a higher quality than most.  There is an 8 pointed star opening at the bottom. One peg for the string is missing. At least a 100 years old.  A museum piece.  

Originally from the Leland Museum of Stanford and was put up on auction in the late 1990
