kERIS - painted scabbard #2383

The keris is from Surakarta Java.  It has a 5 wave blade and is 13-5/16” long. The pamor or laminations on the blade is a combination of Air Tetes / water falls at the center and on the perimeter the pamor is Untu Walang /grasshoppers teeth. 

Surakarta style wood handle has a gold colored ferrule and both are removable / not glued.  Kidney shape upper part of the scabbard is Gayaman style. The intricate and well done designs are painted and at the center is mythical giant Buto Rambut Geni sticking its’ tongue.  The long part of the scabbard has a brass insert with floral designs.

Hand paint art work on the scabbard is exceptional and equal to the best found in museums. The piece is 15 years old.
